In the Music Department at City Academy, our music curriculum intends to inspire self-expression and encourages students to explore the multi-layered musical landscape and find their place within it.
The Music Department is committed to exploring and teaching long standing theories and practices, while remaining equally committed to innovation. In Music, students explore cultural, historical, political, and social events that have influenced the way we see the world. In both key stages there is a constant dialogue between teacher and student, through verbal, written (formative and summative) feedback/assessment, which enables a clear view of progression. In particular, the KS4 curriculum is a wide and varied curriculum, allowing students to pursue their own lines of investigation and self-directed study, where appropriate.
We aim to foster a love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences and igniting a life-long passion for music. Throughout their time at City Academy, students will be given multiple opportunities to listen to and respond to a plethora of different musical styles to allow them to find their voices as singers, performers, and composers, which will enable them to become confident, reflective musicians and citizens.
