In the Business Studies Department at City Academy, building self-confidence and developing student’s knowledge is the highest priority. We strive to encourage students to step into the world of entrepreneurship and emulate the success of key business figures such as James Dyson and Richard Branson in their business-related careers.

Students will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to explore how different business situations affect decision-making, developing their understanding of concepts, objectives and terminology, and the impact of contemporary issues on business operations.

Students will also look at connections between theory and practice, so they are able to apply their understanding of business to real organisations. This will allow learners to make an informed approach that will help to evaluate choices and decisions about their own future working lives. Throughout the year, student’s confidence will improve in using both qualitative and quantitative data to make business decisions in relation to revenue cost and profit.

We encourage students to consider the line from Aristotle. ‘We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit’ and this idea is central to creating a culture of excellence at a classroom level in the Business Studies Department.

Achieving academic excellence is a priority and students will learn how businesses are created and run and understand ideas of enterprise and economic development through a multitude of research and case studies. Business students at City Academy will be entrepreneurial, independent learners, confident presenters and strong team players with a sound understanding of the world in which they live and become leaders of tomorrow.
