In English, we pursue students’ mastery over the texts they read through a series of meaningful and sustainable teaching strategies that are supported by evidence.

By utilising carefully selected strategies that are rooted in educational theory and that are targeted at developing students’ declarative and procedural knowledge, we will imbue our students with a wide range of historical knowledge that will underpin a love of their literary heritage, giving them the ability to powerfully interpret and analyse texts and information.

We want our students to leave school with a rich appreciation of their cultural heritage, which they will get by studying an array of classics from the literary canon and the in-depth teaching of vocabulary, allusions and themes in the texts, and enter society with the ability to relate to, influence and inspire others.
