REF: PCO/RemoteLearning

January 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

I am pleased to inform you that we have made some changes and improvements to the way in which our students can access their remote learning. In response to feedback from parents and students we are moving towards a blended learning approach with three main components of: Live Lessons, Guided Lessons which students will access independently and be supported by pre-prepared materials, and Assessments.

There are several reasons for this change and naturally the more we conduct online learning the more we are refining our approach to what works best. The main reasons for this change are;

  • To enable students to have less screen time, or to be able to better distribute this screen time.
  • To enable teachers to gather more data about student progress, and therefore be able to better support them.
  • To ensure that where issues arise we can act immediately to support parents and carers in addressing them.
  • To improve student wellbeing by adding a daily fitness session.

On the school website you can see all of the information about these changes including more information about the different types of lessons, the timings of the school day and year group specific timetables. I have provided a summary timetable below which simply outlines the times of the day which will come into effect from Monday 18th January for all year groups.

You will also find on the website a series of videos showing how students can access learning and what is required of them for each lesson which I would encourage you to watch with your child so you are both informed and aware of any changes.

All of this will be discussed with your child though their Form group each day on Teams and explained to them by their form tutor, so it is imperative that they attend this session each day at 8.45. It is as vital as ever that students continue to follow their timetable and access all of their learning so we can minimise the disruption to their learning and continue education whilst working remotely. Our staff are working incredibly hard to deliver online learning and we appreciate the support we have from parents in ensuring students are engaging with this.

If your child has been experiencing any problems with accessing remote learning or Microsoft Teams, please contact the school immediately so that we can resolve this. Similarly, if your child does not have a device or internet to access our online learning provision then please contact us. Please contact us by emailing [email protected], or by calling reception on 0121 729 7100.

Yours Sincerely

Mr P. Coleby
Assistant Headteacher
